Spring is finally here! We were outside the other day and Ava was playing with our next door neighbor, and I looked at our porch and yard and just thought “yikes!” I don’t have the greenest thumb, so I wanted to start refreshing our front porch. Don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb either! Miracle-Gro is a name you can trust when you’re wanting big and beautiful plants.
Tip 1: LAYER YOUR WELCOME MAT ON TOP OF AN ACCENT RUG.
When there isn’t a holiday coming up, I keep a pretty traditional welcome mat. One thing I will switch out is the accent rug below. There are some super affordable ones either at Walmart online or via the Pick Up Today service. If you’re wondering size, I get a 2×3 for my single door. If you have double doors, you’ll need at least a 3×5 mat.
Tip 2: UPDATE YOUR FLOWERS TO BE MORE COLORFUL
The oldest tip in the book, but it really does make a huge difference! When we moved into this house last Fall, Christmas was right around the corner. I’m an early holiday decorator, so I just put up those decorations. Y’all know I love Walmart so during my weekly trip, I went to the garden section. Would you believe these flower pots were $5? They are!
Since I don’t have the greenest thumb, I asked the sales associate which products to get. For soil, he said Miracle-Gro Performance Organics Soil would be the best product. It’s made for both indoor and outdoor usage and has added plant nutrition feeds for up to 3 months. He also recommended Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food to mix with the soil.
Next up, Ava and I went to pick flowers. Bonnie Plants had the best selection of colors so we went with pink and white. Tip/Reminder: make sure the flower you’re picking is appropriate for the amount of sunlight they’ll receive!
Tip 3: SPRING CLEAN
Just as you would in your house, sweep off any dirt and remove any cobwebs that might have formed. If you have brick like mine, you’d be surprised by how much dirt it hides!
Tip 4: ADD DECOR
Now that you started a color scheme with flowers, add fun other elements such as pillows, a wreath, or flag. These are easy and inexpensive ways to brighten up the space and definitely make it feel like Spring!
Next on our outdoor list is our backyard! We haven’t done anything to it since we’ve moved in so I’m excited to give it a full refresh in the next couple months!
