This post has been some time in the making, #momlife, but I wanted to share a fun DIY party favor I created for Ava’s 2nd Birthday. If you’re interested in the whole Twodles theme, you can see that post here.
I can say as a true non-DIYer, this is totally attainable! I started with a big box of crayons. The tedious part is actually peeling the wrappers off the crayons individually. I knew I wanted the colors to be in the same family scheme, so as I peeled, I placed them into separate plastic containers. Once you’ve peeled the amount of crayons you want, you’ll need to chop them up into 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces.
Since I wanted to make letters, I ordered these silicone letter trays off Amazon. I set my oven at 220 and let the molds bake for about 10 minutes. PS. they won’t overcook. (learned that when I left one in for probably 45 minutes!) One tip is to fill the molds all the way (and even slightly over) the top. It’ll make a thicker crayon. If you fill the molds with only one row of crayons, it’ll be thin and is easier to break.
Once they’re fully melted, carefully as the wax is still liquid, remove from the oven and place the tray on a cookie sheet. LET IT COOL. If you don’t they will crack super easily while removing from mold. The cooling process takes about a hour (or 20 minutes if you put them in the fridge/freezer like I did).
Either leave them out or wrap them in cute party bags and you’re set to go!
